This year’s Sikh Youth Camp in Kenya was held this August at the historic Gurudwara Makindu Sahib, which is located about 160 miles from the capital city of Nairobi. The camp, a purely Kenyan Sikh initiative and effort, was organised by iSikh (formerly known as Sikh Students Federation, Kenya). Besides the visit of a lecturer from the UK (Dr.D), the rest of the lectures were delivered by Kenyan Sikh youth. Below is a sample of the impressons from the highly successful camp.

I remember visiting Makindu Sahib Gurudwara a couple of years ago when we came to kenya. Hopefully next summer Guru sahib will give me a chance again.

It is the most beautiful feeling to see camps like this being held! Im from Kenya, living in Australia now, and I distinclty remember the last smagam I went to At Makindu Sahib in 1999. there was a Childrens parade that I was part of and there was lots of sangat. absolutely beautiful. The photos you have posted up here have brought back many lovely memories and it was great to see some people in there that I know! The Kirtan in the gardens looks so lovely. God willing I will return someday and stay a while at Makindu Sahib. these camps are a wonderful opportunity for children to learna bout Sikhi Spirituality and it brings me great joy to see these camps happening everywhere. Keep it up!

it’s awesome to see the pictures of the kenyan youth in sikhi..
i came to kenya about three summers ago and had the opportunity to visit makindu gurdwara…i had a nice time there..very peaceful….although i didn’t see any youth around…i even asked the granthi singh ji there at that time..if whether they use the grounds for camps and stuff..and he didnt really know

If you have some time, take your mom in law to the smagam that is taking place in Kericho on 13 – 15 July 2007, or let your family in Kenya know about it.

watching the Kenyan News closely. I am worried about the well being of the community there ?

the sikh community here is doing well, though there are collective concerns on the repercussions following the elections aftermath – the economy is at a virtual standstill and there is too much uncertainty whether things will improve anytime soon. to keep updated on the kenya situation as far as the sikhs are concerned, we have log on to our new blog http://kalasingha.wordpress.com
